It was announced today that the Houston-based Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter will be getting its first bishop. Bishop-elect Steven J. Lopes is a priest of the Archdiocese of San Francisco (California) and for the past decade has served in Rome as a staff person to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
The Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter is one of the 3 such structures world-wide that were erected under Pope Benedict XVI to provide a structured way for former members of the Anglican communion who become Catholic to do so in a way that preserves some of their traditional patrimony. The POofCSP is based in Houston and encompasses all of the United States and Canada.
