Children’s Year of Mercy-Art and Writing Contest

The Office of Evangelization and Catechesis (OEC) for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston invites children in Pre-Kindergarten through 6th gradeto participate in the Year of Mercy art and writing contest.

The theme is Works of Mercy: Corporal and Spiritual.

Contest begins February 1, 2016.

Art:                                                       Any medium; including video or multi-media (maximum length 5 minutes)

Pre-K3 through K

Grades 1-3

Grades 4-6

Writing:                                              Maximum wording

Pre-K3 through K            ½ page hand written or 50 words

Grades 1-3                          200 words – 12pt Times New Roman font, double spaced, 1” margins

Grades 4-6                          500 words – 12pt Times New Roman font, double spaced, 1” margins

Submissions will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Creativity
  • Catholic content and engagement with the theme: Works of Mercy

There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner in each age/grade grouping for art and writing entries

(1 winner for both languages) = 18 total winners.

Prizes to be awarded are:

3rd place          Letter from Cardinal DiNardo and a $25.00 gift card

2nd place          Letter from Cardinal DiNardo and a $50.00 gift card

1st place          Photo with Cardinal DiNardo (to be in the TX Catholic Herald) and a Kindle Fire HD
